This is the procedure for a person applying to obtain citizenship in the UK which comes under three main categories.
From 1 January 1983 based on the British Nationality Act 1981 citizenship could be obtained in following three main categories:
- By operation of law. Citizenship under this route will be operative taking no further action.
- As an entitlement. Citizenship under this route could be obtained by taking steps of registering. The ones who are born and living in the UK for the first 10 years of their life can take up this route can take up this route of registering.
- By discretion. Applications based on Naturalisation are made under this category.
